OUR LAND
In collaboration with BeCandle, Our Land is a family of candle holders made from Hong Kong Soil, sourced directly from 97JC+V64—the site of a landslide mitigation project at a local church in Sai Kung. This precise location, where soil is typically excavated and discarded, became the origin of a new material story.
Each candle holder pairs the earthy richness of reclaimed clay with the artisanal scents of BeCandle, reflecting a shared commitment to craft in Sai Kung. Designed to be repurposed after use, the vessels invite a second life as cherished ceramic objects.
The soil—intercepted before disposal—undergoes months of processing to become a refined stoneware body, suitable for wheel-throwing or hand-forming. What was once overlooked becomes a tactile reminder of place, presence, and preservation.
